Seondo Electric Completes Development of Handle-Lock Type Seismic and Arc-Resistant Switchgear

2025.04.17

Set to Target the High-Spec Power Infrastructure Market

Seondo Electric Co., Ltd. (CEO Hyuk Kwon), a leading power equipment company, announced on the 17th that it has developed a new high-spec 7.2kV metal-clad switchgear (MCSG, photo) with a rated current of 4000A and breaking current of 40kA. Departing from conventional bolt-fastening mechanisms, the product features a handle-lock structure for enhanced safety and usability.

The new product successfully passed seismic and arc-resistance performance tests on April 16 at global certification & testing organizations, SGS Korea and the Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute (KERI). These tests demonstrated the product’s compliance with the high safety and reliability standards demanded in critical power infrastructure sectors.

With this development, Seondo Electric has expanded its seismic and arc-resistant lineup to include rated currents of 1250A, 2000A, 3150A, and now 4000A—enabling the company to respond to large-scale power installations and high-load infrastructure needs. The introduction of a handle-lock system (a lockable handle that eliminates the need for bolts) also improves operational convenience and safety for workers during both operation and maintenance. As the industry increasingly prioritizes operational safety, maintenance efficiency, and worker protection in high-voltage environments, the handle-lock structure is rapidly becoming a standard requirement for high-reliability power equipment.

Seondo Electric developed this product in response to evolving demands from the high-reliability power infrastructure market, including power plants, industrial plants, high-rise buildings, and data centers. The company plans to aggressively promote the new product, including through patent registrations, to strengthen its entry into high-value-added markets.

This strategic move is expected to generate synergy with the company’s recent business momentum. Notably, Seondo Electric recently signed a 6 billion KRW supply contract with SK Hynix for distribution panels and has continued to see a steady rise in order volume since last year.

According to the Korea Electrical Manufacturers Association, Korea’s electrical industry is projected to reach 45.4 trillion KRW in production and $16.2 billion in exports by 2025. Demand for high-spec switchgear is especially rising in areas such as data centers, EV charging infrastructure, and smart plants.

Commenting on this trend, CEO Hyuk Kwon stated, “As seismic and arc certifications become essential requirements in large-scale infrastructure projects, Seondo Electric will continue to pursue technological differentiation to aggressively target high-value-added markets.”
